It has come to my attention that you are once again participating in and
allowing brutality and viciousness against sentient, non-human animals,
and your behaviour in this disturbingly-long pattern of cruelty must
immediately cease. The specters of violance are the reality of murdered
animals, tortured, agonized, and drowned, the vomit and blood crusted on
broken limbs, the bodies of the drowned swollen, their eyes in forever
gazes of shock, fear, and agony. Not only have you demonstrated a
willingness of barbarism, but you have also established an indifference
of health, your actions leaching poisons into an ecology already fragile
from damage and misuse. The repercussions of your savagery against
non-human animals will include the destruction of an environment harming
your communities of human animals.... See more
But to regard your gravest crime, that against our non-human animal
friends, is exceptionally difficult. In fact, it is impossible to
contemplate such depravity, the deliberate act to echo the hateful
thought, the dismissal of sentience and the taking of life so
effortlessly. I wonder, at what age did you learn your heart was stone,
when the touch of an innocent animal, the friendly wag of a tail, and
the trusting gesture animals share was answered with apathy? And when
did you determine your unquestioning capacity to harm and kill eclipsed
any compassion you may have once possessed? When your benevolence
creates intolerance and greed, and your innocence invokes hate and
spite, and your empathy invites pain and death, you have squandered
every past moment of compassion, and every potential extension of
charity is now darkened with the silhouette of evil. When you sleep, do
your nightmares frighten you? The visions you experience and likely
forget are the manifestations of terror inflicted on our non-human
animal friends in perverse manners of greed and bias, the duplicitous
demonstration of your mind reconciling your cruelty. To be human is not
to be proud but to be shamed into humiliation at our exceeding arrogance
and diminishing charity; indeed, to be alive is to be fatal: in the war
of malevolence, our weapons indifference and prejudice, we reign
victorious, the animal victims silenced with pain, suffering, and
murder. Humanity is a mass killing machine, your barbarism the fuel, and
the product injustice.
My hope is there is a glimmer of sanctuary in the wretched hell of
thought, that you will consider the non-human animals you expose to
viciousness and fear, and establish that you are not a person to be
considered with terror and agony, but rather with empathy and kindness.
It is never too late to extend a gesture of compassion to our animal
friends and I implore upon you to cease this savageness immediately;
until you react with respect and empathy versus pain and death, I will
be forced to impose a personal boycott of your country and commerce and
share this information with a large network of friends and activists to
demonstrate their rejection of your actions as well. Until the animals
are safe from exploitation and suffering, the consequences will be felt
financially, economically, and socially. It is important to understand
that these animals are regarded as family members to your western
neighbors, and the collective who embrace them as children will reject
you with contempt.

Notruf aus Serbia - bitte schickt den Brief an den Bürgermeister von Nis.
Vorsicht: grausame Bilder.

Es geschah zwischen 08. und 09. März in einem Dorf in der Nähe von Nis.
Kinder haben die Leichen der 6 Hunde am Ende des Fußballfeldes gefunden,
die Hunde waren ca. 5 Monate alt oder älter, Hinterbeine an Ästen
gebunden und gehängt. Bisher sind die Täter noch unbekannt.
Anzeige gegen den/die Unbekannten wurde erstattet. Man fand noch
schlimmeres heraus: die Hunde wären zuerst erträngt, dann aufgehängt
worden, laut TSV "Zoo Planet" wäre solche brutale Tierquälerei in der
Nis Gegend bis jetzt noch nicht bekannt. Polizei war bereits vor Ort und
ist auf der Suche nach den Tätern( ich weiß aber nicht, wie lange sie
das noch machen.... und überhaupt.)

Dear Mayor Simonovic,
I am gravely disturbed to learn of the deliberate torture of dogs in
Nis, as perpetrated in the presence of children. These dogs were
deliberately hung on tree branches and killed in a blatantly cruel
manner. This is not an isolated incidence and factually represents an
indefensible, ongoing campaign conducted by communities to address the
growing population of homeless animals. Indeed, given the transparent
nature of these killings and the seeming lack of official intervention
and termination, it is alleged that municipal approval has been extended
to sanction this. As such, I am demanding immediate intervention to
protect these animals and criminalize the people responsible for such
cruelty.
Allow me this moment to elaborate. Animals are sentient creatures who,
as humans, experience joy, loneliness, fear, and pain. As humans, we
unethically elevate ourselves to a status of superiority over all other
beings, thereby rationalizing the brutality to which we subject them. We
embrace this position as an elite class of six billion individuals,
adopting euphemistic descriptions and apathetic banalities to justify
this inequity. Speciesism, the discrimination of other beings, is a
dangerous precept on which to stand, as immoral as sexism and racism;
when human animals allow the exploitation and killing of 60 billion
non-human animals globally and annually, we have become a group
willingly complicit in such brutality, apathetic and selfish, disguising
such maliciousness as excusable necessity, which is not only grossly
unjust and immoral, but it is also exceedingly wrong.
Ours is not a challenge to be regarded as humans against humans but
rather as a welcomed obligation, indeed privilege, to maintain an
international attitude of compassion and justice to our non-human animal
friends. We do not gain power or control by degrading animals but rather
we desensitize ourselves to all cruelty and victims become mere numbers,
statistics, or unethical financial means. Objectifying animals by
condoning their abusers' violent acts or rejecting animals as
undeserving of empathy and respect only erodes our capacity for
humaneness towards all living creatures.
It is impossible to contemplate supporting any country, via tourism or
commerce, that excuses such blatant animal cruelty; as a direct
consequence, the global community, refusing to defend this
maliciousness, will condemn any further exploitation through personal
boycotts. Ours is not an ambiguous request; you should understand that
further killing will prove not only socially unacceptable but also
financially irresponsible. As such, please provide immediate relief for
these innocent animals and instead be a representation of animal
compassion and strive to foster an ideal whereby animals are respected
and empathized by your citizens. Allocate resources to construct
shelters; implement sterilization and vaccination programs to prevent
homeless populations and colony disease outbreaks; accept local and
international advice and assistance; implement laws addressing current
legal vulnerabilities; and enforce existing laws establishing animal
cruelty as criminal.
I hope this letter finds you willing to scrutinize both your own
involvement in the intentional exploitation of animals and your desire
to therefore protect, rather than harm, them. Thank you for your

Seit letztem Jahr bin ich mit einem TS Aktivist aus Mazedonien in
Kontakt und werde immer wieder auf das Elend dort aufmerksam gemacht.
Er hat uns gestern drum gebeten, unten stehenden Brief erneut an die
tierfreundlichen EU Abgeordneten (u.a.Frau Caroline Lucas) und EU
Intergruppe für Tierschutz, einige TS Orgas und Tierschützer weltweit zu
schicken. Und heute wollte ich Euch drum bitten einen Brief an die
mazedonischen Behörden und einen an die oben genannte EU Intergruppe zu
schicken. Ich habe gerade keine Zeit alle Details zu übersetzen, aber
unten findet ihr die Links zu Videos, falls ihr Euch traut..
In Mazedonien leiden die Tiere wie in allen Balkanländern und ganz
Osteuropa. Die Behörden unternehmen nichts, obwohl immer mehr Bürger und
Tierschützer entsetzt sind und seit langem protestieren und sich
bemühen, bessere Lösungen zu finden. Es wird gelogen, Verbrechen
totgeschwiegen, streunende Hunde entweder vergiftet, erschossen,
gequält, oder von herzlosen Hundefängern sofort kaltblütig getötet, mit
Knüppel oder Schlagstock, und die Hunde, die das "Glück" haben, nicht
direkt getötet zu werden und in den Zwinger gebracht werden( unten in
der Mail ist von "Vardarishte" die Rede.), werden unter schrecklichen
Bedingungen gehalten, ohne Heizung bei den Minus-Temperaturen, Zwinger
werden mit eisigem Wasser "gereinigt", obwohl sich die Hunde drin
befinden, irgendwann gehen die meisten Tiere zugrunde, wenn sie nicht
vorher "erlöst"-sprich ermordet- werden.
Tierschützer in Skopje tun alles was sie nur können, Proteste,
Telefonate, Gespräche mit den Behörden, alle Versuche bleiben erfolglos,
vermutlich hätten die Behörden ihre eigene feste Strategie, die Probleme
der Überpopulation zu "lösen", und die Tierschützer sind recht
verzweifelt und hoffen, dass wir Tierschützer im Ausland der Regierung
Druck machen und endlich etwas ändern können, ohne Unterstützung vom
Aussen wären sie komplett verloren und die Zukunft von ca. 10,000
Streuner in Skopje und wer weiß wie viele Hunde und Katzen im ganzen
Land, ist nur ungewiss und ganz sicher vernichtend..

Macedonia has always been a symbol of ancient traditions, good people
and hospitality... Now, seeing through our eyes, *Skopje is a city of
terror, massacre and use of strength against the week ones and those who
don't have a chance to defend themselves!*
We thought that we are part of the European family, but *all we can see
is an ugly picture of terror and a country that can't handle the problem

the institution that literary has closed its doors for the people who
want to adopt a homeless dog, the institution that didn't changed its
way of functioning and killing innocent animals, but became even more

*All of this mentioned above, will put a mark on you -- as aggressive
politicians who don't care about which instrument to use, as long as
their objective is achieved.*
But... do you know that one of the conditions for entrance in the
European family is human treatment towards the dogs and transparency of
the institutions who are supposed to take care of them?

Betreff : Please, help the dogs in Skopje, Macedonia
To Whom It May Concern:
The reason we are writing you is to draw your attention to the suffering
and killing of huge number of strayed dogs in Skopje, in facility which
is supposed to implement a catch-neuter-release programme.
The city of Skopje has assigned a city communal services company, the
public enterprise "Komunalna Higiena", to run the facility and to be
responsible for the process of catching and treating the dogs. The
treatment should include de-worming, spaying/neutering of the dogs and
returning them to the location where they were caught. Unfortunately,
not only the programme is not being carried out according to the plan
(officially there is about 60% of euthanasia, unofficially about 90%!),
but the dogs kept in the holding facility are being mistreated and left
to suffer from extremely bad conditions (too many dogs in one cage,
concrete wet surface, often hungry, without enough drinking water, many
of them are sick and are in same cage with healthy dogs). Furthermore,
the facility's management is not allowing visitors for adoption to come
every day. Visitors can come only two days of the week, Fridays and
Saturdays, from 9.00h-12.00h a.m. We believe that without a proper
adoption plan, the catch-neuter-release programme can not be successful.
In addition to this, we would like to provide you with the following
information:
- There is only one veterinarian in the holding facility. However, the
dog catching team is constantly increasing the number of its members.
Currently, there are 40 official dog-catchers. The dogs are being caught
non-stop, because the dog catching service works in three shifts!
- The cages are too full. In most of the cages, there are over 15 dogs
in one cage. There is no evidence of which dog has been caught,
sterilized or euthanized, signed by a veterinarian who determined the
reasons why the certain dog has been euthanized.
- The dogs are starved, the hygiene is intolerant, in fact, the holding
facility is a source of diseases (Febris catarrhalis infectiosa canis
and Parvovirosis). Majority of the small dogs die in terrible pain,
without any veterinary care being provided.
- The dogs are treated like parasites, they are not being vaccinated
against Rabies. Also, adoption and health documents are not issued for
the adopted dogs.
- Majority of the dogs are never taken out of the cages.
- When the cages are being washed, the dogs are not taken out of the
cages. They are forced to stay on wet and cold concrete floor. Many of
the dogs, mostly the little ones die from Pneumonia.
- There are barely marked dogs, not more than 10 % of the caught dogs
(dogs marked as sterilized and that need to be returned to their
territory because they are healthy and non aggressive).
- It's strictly forbidden to shoot pictures in the facility, or to
record any video materials, everything with purpose to hide the truth
and the real situation!
According to the information we have received backed up by statements
and photographs, programme is not being implemented as planned and the
dogs are randomly being euthanized in extremely huge numbers. The
killing of numerous strayed dogs has never been a successful way of
dealing with this problem. Today when animals have come to depend on us,
this is a very cruel way to treat them. We believe that in the 21st
century we do not need to prove that animals feel pain when being abused
or killed!
In relation to this problem, we have often discussed with city
authorities (major of the city of Skopje, Mr. Koce Trajanovski) and with
"Komunalna Higiena" about the implementation of the programme mentioned
above. Also all the biggest world association for protection of animals
were informed and they reacted on this enormous killing and mistreatment
of the dogs (PETA, WSPA, OIPA international, VIER Pfoten etc) but the
situation is not changed. We believe that this elimination is the
politic of the city, who would like to "solve the problem" of dog
uncontrolled population by implementing mass liquidation and officially
killing more than every second dog they catch. Addressing international
organizations with a mission to help protect animals is our last hope,
to be voice of the voiceless. Please help us to help these animals --

Dear friend of animals,
We ask for your help again in order to stop the massive killing of the
homeless dogs and the inhuman treatment in Skopje, in the holding
facility Vardarishte. Despite all efforts to change the condition,
nothing has been changed for better, there is no consideration for the
reactions by the Macedonian citizens who are disgusted from the
principle of massive killings, disgusted from the standards for the dogs
stay in the holding facility Vardarishte, disappointed from the
functioning of the facility. Although as a public institution it is
obligated to operate transparently in front of the citizens, it hides
public data, it is closed for public and for visits, except for the
total 6 hours per week (of which 3h on Friday, from 9-12h when people
are at work), there is prohibition of free movement within it, the
recording and photographing are the most strictly prohibited in order
for the glamorous camp photo of the 21st century not to be seen.
1. Currently, in the holding facility almost all small puppies are dying
from freezing, pneumonia, viruses, because it is very cold and
temperatures are below 0, and the holding facility is half closed type
of facility, without any possibilities for working in winter! And the
few dogs that have surgery done / sterilized, die because they are
outside, freezing. The dogs lie on frozen water, frozen concrete, with
no place to hide or get warm even for a moment. They continue washing
the cages with heavy flows of water, without removing the dogs from
cages. The dogs stay in the cages and die in tremendous torments!
Simultaneously continues the practice of massive killing, officially
around 70%, unofficially much more.
2. People who catch dogs are completely incompetent, rude bullies (with
the exception of maximum 5 out of 36 dog catchers). Hunting massively,
saying that there won't be any dog on the streets, not even leaving the
dogs that are quiet and for whom the people take care of, vaccinated,
sterilized....They say that it has been ordered and that every stray dog
is to be caught - believe it, there is massacre and genocide, and only
in Skopje there are around 10 000 homeless dogs!
3. The dog-catchers also carry bats while catching, going in 8 teams, in
three shifts, with unmark vehicles, massively and roughly catching a
part of the dogs, and part of the dogs they don't even take them to the
holding facility but surely kill them in other places - for this we
testimonials by citizens whose dogs have been caught and who had gone
the same day to look for their dogs. However, the dog-catcher have been
telling them that their dogs had not been caught (despite the
photographs of the dogs being caught) or that they have been adopted, of
course, without giving them information about location!
4. The latest strategy in the holding facility is that on every cage
they put papers on which it is written that the dog is too aggressive -
we claim that it is a disgusting lie in almost all cases, because they
never want to say who concretely (including name, analysis and
evaluation) has put the paper. Believe me, almost all dogs marked like
this, even those who are so dear, peaceful, social, with randomly
written label - AGGRESSIVE to justify the killing, declared without any
official document to show, official evaluation by competent person. This
is the main excuse for the death of almost 90% of caught dogs, dogs that
we didn't manage to save.
Despite all our reactions, calls, meetings with the authorities,
organized protest (under the slogan No to Bloody Skopje), we fail to
stop or change anything, we have never succeeded anything because
obviously this is a fixed defined "strategy" for solving the problem of
excessive dogs population. There is no holding facility on the entire
Macedonian territory, where the CNR program should performed! Instead,
here rules the system of massive poisoning, dog tournaments, torture,
murder with guns. Please help us in any way, please start to put
pressure once and for all to put an end to the violent and extremely
cruel principle - we will do everything for this to be stopped,
everything that you think that could and should be done. We ask for your
support because without assistance from abroad, the struggle for
salvation and life of over 10 000 dogs in Skopje, and many more in other
places in Macedonia, is lost in advance.
Please also give a support to the local macedonian animal protection
organizations "Anima Mundi" (anima.mundi.sk.mk@gmail.com) and "SRNA" and
indipendent activists for animal protection , because they are doing
their best to stop this madness!

Esta foto ha sido tomada en la provincia de Jaén hace unos días, no no

Estos perros son llevados de caza en estas condiciones, y seguramente no
habrán probado bocado desde hace días para que se lancen con más ganas a
las presas...
¿Podemos decir entonces que en España no hay tortura animal? ¿Podemos
decir que somos un país del "primer mundo"?
O más bien somos un país tercermundista.
¡Leyes adecuadas en defensa de los animales, YA!

Können wir behaupten, dass wir ein "Erste-Welt-Land" sind?
Oder sind wir nicht eher ein Dritte-Welt-Land.

so schön wie es ist zu sehen, dass diese Hundeseelen mit unschuldigen
Augen jetzt in Sicherheit sind und bald mit dem neuen Leben beginnen
können, kann ich nicht aufhören zu denken, wie viele von ihnen Tag für
Tag diese Tortur durchmachen und keine Chance haben, von Engeln wie
diesen mutigen Tierschützern gerettet zu werden...... vergeht mir die

Ende Oktober wurde ein 6 jähriges Pferd namens Paul vom eigenen Besitzer
mit Benzin übergossen und lebendig verbrannt, nur weil Paul sich
geweigert hat zu laufen, das Geschehen wurde von Nachbarn beobachtet.
Er lebte noch, obwohl 90 % seines Körpers schon verbrannt und beschädigt
war.. doch er musste eingeschläfert werden, damit er nicht weiter
leiden musste.
Verbrechen wie dieses ist kein Einzellfall in Kolumbien, allein dieses
Jahr haben sie 230 Meldungen erhalten und davon waren 130 Fälle der
Pferdequälerei.

Apparently the animal refused to walk and that is why the owner poured
gasoline over it and set it alight. Posted on Friday October 23, 2009
The incident occurred east of the capital of Valle Bonilla Aragon near
the neighborhood. In a crop of sugarcane, the villagers watched as
'Paul', the carter horse from a neighbor was consumed by flames,
eventually dying from burns.
"I immediately called the 123 and moved the Environmental Police
personnel. It was a rough picture of animal cruelty," said Sgt Yovanni
Ñáñez, commander of the Environmental Police.
The animal, a pale horse bay, about 6 years, was still alive. He
suffered burns of first and third grade in 90 percent of his body. The
owner of the horse and his companion surprisingly argued that they found
the horse like that, and had planned to put it out of its misery!
However, the police established that they poured gasoline over the horse
and set fire to it, because it had refused to walk.
Given the seriousness of the injuries it was necessary to go to
Municipal Zoonosis Center, where it was decided to apply euthanasia to
prevent further suffering.
"What we are asking the community to warn that when situations of
violence against animals of any species, reported immediately to 123 or
phone 551 78 10," said Sgt Ñáñez, who recalled that this year the unit
has handled 230 cases, among which 130 have been horses.

Brazilian Police Shut Down Slaughterhouse Selling Dog and Cat Meat

Ax used to kill dogsRoberto Moraes, 46, and Roseli Nascimento, 39, have
been arrested in Brazil accused of killing dogs and cats and selling
their meat to restaurants catering to mostly oriental customers. The
couple lives in Suzano, a city in the Greater São Paulo

According to the police, the dog and cat slaughterhouse was set in a
room in the back of the couple's house. They had been doing business

Miguel Badra neighborhood. The animals were picked up from the streets
and after being killed each one was sold for about 200 reais (US$ 116).
The animals' parts not sold were incinerated.
When the police arrived this Thursday, November 12, at the place they
found a dog that was about to be killed. The location had two tables,
axes, hooks and a freezer with dog and cat meat inside. The frozen
bodies of 5 dogs and 2 cats were found in the freezer. The detainees
were taken to the 2nd Bureau of Public Health of the DPPC (Department of
Police and Citizenry Protection).
The police investigation lasted more than a month and the owners of the
business were arrested in flagrante delicto. In a note, chief inspector
Anderson Pires Giampaoli from the 2nd Bureau of Public Health informed
that the animals were picked up from the streets and then maintained
inside the place to be fattened while the owners waited for an order.
"They killed the animals with an ax and then burned the animals hide
with a welding torch," explained Giampaoli.
According to him they sold an average of ten animals a week. "They said
that they did not know that this was illegal," informed Giampaoli.
Commenting on the fact that the animals were found in the streets, the
inspector said, "This is a very serious offense, since we don't know
where the animals came from."
The meat was sold to restaurants in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, close
to downtown São Paulo. After closing the slaughterhouse the police paid
a visit to the restaurants in the afternoon and arrested the owners of
two oriental restaurants suspect of selling the meat.
São Paulo state's law 11.977 state tells that, "domestic animals, those
living with a human being, who depend on humans and do not reject human
submission" cannot be raised for food.
The couple and the restaurants owners will be charged for crimes against
the fauna, against the environment and for gang formation. The
restaurants should be closed by the sanitary surveillance service

Dog food is a millenary tradition in countries like China, Vietnam,
South and North Korea and the Philippines

serve the delicacy are mostly found in restaurants far from the bigger
